Spring is here in Northern California and we are enjoying the warming weather and the gorgeous flowers everywhere. Which makes it an ideal time to share this tour with you! It all started with the post on The Literary Salon and Geeta, who lives in the Midwest, sent in this picture of her living room with an abundance of art and books.
While a home tour is in the works, let’s take a tour of the outside of the house. A note of caution- if you are stuck in winter (we in California have moved onto spring and probably, even summer with average daytime temperatures of 75-80 degrees), the pictures are going to bring on a severe case of spring fever!
“Our house was built on an overgrown and neglected apple orchard. Over 3 years of hard work and TLC has made the landscape more manageable. My husband and I both like a well-tended yard. We started by adding the stone retaining walls around the beds to tame the native ground cover. A casual flagstone path leads to the deck and the backyard.
Come spring, these apple trees will be filled with apple blossoms and the red cardinals, our state bird, will come rushing back to these handmade wooden bird feeders which I painted bright blue. Tulips and Cosmos bloom inside the tree rings in spring.
Tucked in one corner of the yard is the ideal place to enjoy bird songs, books and cups of tea ….
There are clusters of perennial blooms at different spots to add drama..
..and where there are no perennials, I add planters every summer to compliment the greenery. As a tradition, every year, my darling daughter buys me seedlings, and together we plant the annuals all day long on Mother’s Day.
The accent, landscape lights we added help us enjoy the yard long after sunset. Pictures don’t do it justice, but the sounds of crickets, the stars above and these lights- it’s quite magical!
It’s snowing outside as I write this, but these pictures from last season make me look forward to summer.
Simple pleasures indeed!” – Geeta Rao
