Our Monday evening just got a lot brighter thanks to this colorful home in Gilbert, Arizona! Today’s tour is courtesy of Shweta who shares the home with her husband, Harshad and their two kids, Kanad and Vihaan. Shweta and her family have lived in this house for about 3 years and this is the first home that they’ve bought. I loved the boho eclectic style, the pops of color and the youthful vibe! If I’d to pick my favorite room in the house, it would be the gorgeous, master bedroom which Shweta painted and stenciled with peacock motifs -the effect is very Eastern luxe! Shweta give us a tour.. “Our home is bold and colorful, and we like it that way! It helps keep things fresh and fun. It’s also an ideal mix of colours, patterns, new & old. My husband and I both love DIY projects and so we tried and did many things on our own. This is our foyer, the area you see when you first enter our home. I wanted the entryway to be inviting and clutter-free. Here, I placed a console table with a Krishna statue from Mathura, India. The stenciled wall provides a beautiful backdrop!”
When you open the door, the first thing you see is the living area. I just love the way it turned out with the ivory sofa set and the “baithak” my husband built for me. This pretty little low sitting bench serves as additional seating and I added a foam cushion and throw pillows to make it cozy.”
“I painted one wall brick-red and absolutely adore it. My white couch just shines against that red.. My coffee table and the end tables were originally black which I spray painted gold, and now adds that ‘wow’ factor! Above those end tables, I have my DIY’ed “jharokha” frames.. I use them to showcase my brass artifacts that I keep rotating. I used fabric to line my shadow boxes which I glued on these pretty laser cut wood frames from Michaels and gave it a gold metallic coating all over.”
“Our kitchen is the place where most of the activities happen- the kids do their home work at the dining table and it also serves as HQ for their art projects and nonstop chatter. We installed a metal backsplash in our kitchen in a copper tone which goes beautifully against black granite. I found these lovely lion head copper pulls for drawers and maple leaf ones for cabinet doors which I drilled and put together myself.”“Both my kids are crazy about boats, ships and pirates and so I painted one wall in blue & white nautical stripes and added few red accents. Now only if I could get them out of our bed! ????”
Now for the pièce de résistance! “We’ve painted the whole house ourselves and my absolute favorite DIY is our master bedroom wall that I stenciled. I love the colors of the peacock and I am obsessed with turquoise, royal blue & green. So, I painted one wall turquoise and stenciled a damask pattern that I picked up from a craft store.. I used pale gold colour for my stencil. I love patterns, bold colours and this wall just delivers all of that. The rest of the walls in the bedroom are cream (Banana cream from Sherwin Williams).
“As soon as I saw this bed in store, I fell in love with the woodwork on the headboard. For the window treatment, I found these gorgeous peacock feather curtains from Pier One Imports. They are the perfect shade of turquoise in raw silk. With so many colours and patterns , I kept the bedding simple and subtle. My second love is my master bath wall. I painted beautiful cherry blossom branches in aqua and hung metal cages to give it a whimsical look.” Our closet is right behind the master bath and I utilized the space to the max by installing shelves and cubbies for all things girly! I can practically live there. I need a well-organized space to function and I just can’t work if it’s cluttered. I hope you enjoyed peeking into our colorful casa and thank you Priya for letting me showcase my pride here at OUATT.” – Shweta
