What Is Your Superpower? (365 Creative Exercises & Prompts, Day 28)

Introduction: Welcome! We are now into Week 4, Day 28 of the 365-Day Creativity Challenge, and I am excited and happy to have you here!  I use the terms ‘creative’, ‘creativity’  or ‘creative exercise’ very loosely. While they have very specific meanings within the art or business worlds, I define it as any activity that allows us to access an inner stillness. Where the mind’s incessant chatter decreases, and for that short period of time, we are in the presence of a magnificent quietude. Where we feel joyful and recharged as if accessing a powerful, bountiful source of imagination and ideas. It makes what we do- draw, write, paint, work in a science lab, dance, sing, play music, photography etc. etc.- a spiritual experience. It has nothing to do with talent and skill level, and everything to do with joy. Whether you take part in all 365 days, or 7, 21, or 30 days, or join us when you can, I hope you will take the time to relax, slow down, and be your joyous self! Want more details? What is your superpower? 365 Creativity Challenge/ Collectivitea

Day 28 Prompt: What is your superpower? Write what the superpower is and describe it using 10-15 sentences. As with all the prompts, write it quickly. Don’t overthink it or judge it. Just write it down. Definitely have fun with it!

I know the word superpower immediately brings to mind superheroes from comic books. But we are not talking about characters like Superman or Wonder Woman who are known for their super-human physical strength or abilities. Instead we are focusing on one key strength that we see in ourselves. (Maybe it’s something that you know you are capable of and would like to work on further. After all, every superhero has a learning curve!) For example, you are really good at picking yourself up after a fall or setback. Tenacity. Persistence. Kindness. Moving forward in the face of fear. Your ability to enjoy. To live in the moment. Curiosity. Willingness to look at all sides. Empathy. Openness. Confidence. Positivity. Optimism. You set really good boundaries. Diligently practice self-care. While these may not be what popular culture may consider superpowers, they definitely should be!  Of course, it doesn’t have to be all serious. One of my superpowers definitely has to be my ability to read romance novels. I can always read one more, no matter how implausible the plot. Your superpower could be a creative talent or skill. You get to decide what your superpower is.
Go For It: Draw a picture of yourself using your superpower or a picture that, to you, represents your superpower.  

My Day 28 Prompt: Apart from my superpower-ed ability to read romance novels, my biggest strengths are my willingness to listen and learn, and more recently, my ability to set boundaries. I have taught myself how to set healthy emotional boundaries even though I found it really difficult in the beginning to even mildly disagree with anyone. Age helps, but so has the realization that people pleasing left me feeling exhausted. Setting boundaries is definitely my current superpower!
