It’s Dec 3rd, Sunday evening as I type this. I started writing a blog 9 years ago on Dec 4th. Just like a birthday or a wedding anniversary, this date is forever etched into my life as one when I embarked on a new life direction. I started a blog. On the surface, that’s hardly a life-altering event One blog, among many millions of websites and blogs. But it changed my life. For the first time, I let instinct and curiosity guide me. I wrote about what interested me. I learned how to take a picture. Having an audience was a bonus, not a requirement. The writing and photography brought so much joy. Everything else was extra. I discovered that I too could be creative. And though I lost sight of all that for some time, I rediscovered the awesomeness of it this year. Perhaps most importantly, pursuing my creativity led me on a path of self discovery, one of those paths that having gone on you can never return. Who knew that writing a small blog could do all that?! This will be my 10th year of writing and I am excited!
Whatever you do that brings you joy, keep doing it. Make time for it every single day. Get away from the busyness of life and spend time with it. Nurture it. Enjoy it. Have fun with it. We are on Day 33 of the 365-Day Creativity Challenge and today, take the time to examine what activities make you happy. Make a list. Check it twice. Art, music, writing, gardening, whatever it is, resolve to do more of it. And for the creative prompt, write out a paragraph of 5-10 sentences, starting with the sentence, “I love (drawing, writing, taking pictures, cooking etc.) because it makes me…. The goal of this creative exercise is to be clear on what exploring your creativity means to you. How do you feel? What does it do for you?
Just as a reminder, it really helps to have a dedicated journal or notebook because you will see a continuous record of your creativity expanding and changing as you devote time to it every day. You will also be creating a year’s worth of creative work. As you work through the prompts, write down other things that strike you because you may want to revisit these ideas. Have a wonderful day and I will see you tomorrow! To share what you are doing, please use the hashtag #ctea365 on social media and /or leave me a comment below. – Priya
