12 Things To Do In 2018 (365 Creative Exercises & Prompts, Day 63)

12 Things To Do In 2018 / 365 Creative Exercises

12 Things To Do In 2018 / 365 Creative Exercises 2018 has just arrived, but it already feels like an old friend, comfortable and all-knowing! For today’s prompt, Day 63, let’s make a list of 12 things to do in 2018. In this list, there’s at least one thing that we are going to give up, at least one new skill that we are going to learn, and at least one new attitude that we are going to adopt. At least one thing that we aren’t going to give up. At least one thing we are going to say Yes to.  Write your list quickly, and without judgement. See what comes up. In my experience, it helps to be specific. For example, my list looked something like this- 1) Give up needing to have things be ‘just so’ which is this imaginary perfect land where I am perfect all the time. 2) New skill– I am going to learn how to paint in the style of Indian folk art. This has been a dream for a long time, but I have never made the time commitment to take classes or prioritized it, choosing instead to focus on all the THINGS I HAVE TO DO. All in upper case. Somewhere along the way I seem to have forgotten how much fun it is to do things I want to do and have gotten into this heavier way of living. We always have things we have to do; the trick is to make sure it’s balanced with the things we love to do. So folk art painting is one of the skills I am going to learn this year. 3) A new attitude to adopt– hopeful, more trusting that we are exactly where we need to be. 4) To never give up believing in myself. What else goes into this list? A trip to London. To bring single-minded focus on some business goals. To remind myself everyday to honor my feelings. To  do my best never to skip my daily walk. And so on. What does your list look like? – Priya

Background: Welcome! We are now at Day 63 of the 365 Day Creativity Challenge, and I am excited and happy to have you here!  I use the terms ‘creative’, ‘creativity’  or ‘creative exercise’ very loosely. While they have very specific meanings within the art or business worlds, I define it as any activity that allows us to access an inner stillness. Where the mind’s incessant chatter decreases, and for that short period of time, we are in the presence of a magnificent quietude. Where we feel joyful and recharged as if accessing a powerful, bountiful source of imagination and ideas. It makes what we do- draw, write, paint, work in a science lab, dance, sing, play music, photography etc. etc.- a spiritual experience. It has nothing to do with talent and skill level, and everything to do with joy. Whether you take part in all 365 days, or 7, 21, or 30 days, or join us when you can, I hope you will take the time to relax, slow down, and be your joyous self! Want more details? You may want to read this introduction to the 365-Day Creativity Challenge. Just as a reminder, it really helps to have a dedicated journal or notebook because you will see  a continuous record of your creativity expanding and changing as you devote time to it every day. You will also be creating a year’s worth of creative work. As you work through the prompts, write down other things that strike you because you may want to revisit these ideas. Have a wonderful day and I will see you tomorrow! To share what you are doing, please use the hashtag #ctea365 on social media and /or leave me a comment below. – Priya
